The Bad Plus @Blue Note New York
Last Sunday I went to the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York, definitely one of the most famous jazz venues in the world.
If you are in New York I would definitely suggest you to spend one evening there, you won’t regret it. You will breathe an atmosphere of jazz history with the autographs of the greatest musicians engraved on every table (Oscar Peterson, Ray Charles, etc. etc.) and the black and white photos that tell you the story of this place. Incredible musicians and amazing atmosphere will complete your experience.
Here I had the occasion to see The Bad Plus, a jazz trio from United States consisting of pianist Ethan Iverson, bassist Red Anderson and drummer Dave King (coming from Minneapolis, MN).
The trio’s music combines elements of modern avant-grade jazz with rock and pop influences (they infact have recorded versions of songs by Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Queen and Radiohead).
I have to say that rarely I have seen live such an amazing drummer like Dave King: in some songs it’s almost seemed to me that the trio was built around him. Rhythm decompositions and tempo changes were really what captured my attention (more than the melodic part of their compositions). Really interesting work and a lot of talent here.
They are coming to Europe in the next months: if I were you, I wouldn’t miss them.
