Just wanted to share with you the best version live of “Cantaloupe Island” I have seen so far.

For those of you who don’t know the tune, “Cantaloupe Island” is a jazz standard composed by Herbie Hancock and recorded for his album “Empyrean Isles” in 1964. It’s one of the very first examples of a modal jazz composition set to funk style groove. Here is performed by a supergroup composed by Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke, Wayne Shorter and Omar Hakim.

Favourite moments:

1) The solo by Herbie Hancock, all! (starts at 6,14 min)

2) Ascending scale (8,29 min)

3) Understanding and excitement between Herbie Hancock and Omar Hakim (from 8,52 to 9,10)

Amazing performance (I got totally addicted). Now it’s all yours to enjoy.
